MATHS and MEASUREMENT

Metres Squared from Myroom 5 on Vimeo.

We have been looking at how to measure in cm's and m's this term. This week, we had some fun looking at a 'square metre' and wondered how many Year 4's could fit in one square metre or 1m2.

With some management, we could fit 16 Year 4's in. We tried again, with less 'holding on to each other', and managed 14.

Last week, we had estimated and then measure the width and length of our classroom. We found out that it is 9m x 7m.

CHALLENGE ACCEPTED: PROBLEM SOLVING
A lot of people in Room took on the challenge to find out if we could fit 16 Year 4's in 1m2, how many could we fit in the classroom with no furniture or cupboards.

Only one student solved it on the day, but lots showed RESILIENCE and perseverance, working hard to solve it, and went home that night to try and do just that.

I am not going to share the answer here, as some are still solving the problem and it's important they are allowed time to 'figure it out'.

One piece of information was given though, and it is this...the answer is over 1000.

Happy problem solving!!!
